Aquasphere Alpha Fin
Yes I know, they look kind of funny. I think so too, but the real question is, are they functional? I took mine to the pool today for a test. I like to use and have my athletes use fins while performing many of their swim drills.
As soon as I put them on they felt much more comfortable than my “regular” fins. I also noticed they wanted to float. A nice feature when focusing on body position in the pool. Most other fins are heavy and tend to make your feet drag along or require to to kick harder to keep a nutrual body position.
Another nice feature is the way they are shaped. Your feet are able to stay closer together as the blades don’t hit each other as you are kicking. Again allowing you to stay more streamlined.
My final thoughts? Well I removed my “old” fins from my swim bag. I feel these fins made a big difference in my ability to focus on my stroke and as a side benefit I felt they also helped, or did a better job at increasing my ankle flexibility, something most of us need help with.
As for sizing. I would recommend if you are between two sizes I would choose to size down. I normally wear a size 10 shoe and chose the 8-9 fin size and they fit nicely.
